The Alternative Master Plan is ambitious and visionary, navigating the demands of the maritime industry, catering to the needs of a growing local community, and protecting and enhancing the natural habitat of this special part of Moreton Bay.
Encouraging State and Local governments to work collaboratively, the scheme solves some of the major challenges in the area, including limited parking, confusing and restricted road networks, flooding at high tide, disconnected green space along the coast, and poor patronage of local restaurants.
The environment is protected and community green space is enlarged, with green space retained through connected parkland, a signature coastal park, and expanded habitat areas that provide for visiting shorebirds and other wildlife.
A vibrant and mixed-use harbour is imagined, where boardwalks are flanked by food and beverage outlets, a specialised maritime aquarium and research centre provides employment and inspiration for the brightest young minds, and a boutique hotel caters for visiting friends and relatives, providing sweeping views of the bay and glasshouse mountain beyond.
